| Gmail
and Firefox, The Perfect Marriage:
So many individuals and small
businesses have opted out of the Microsoft Outlook, Exchange system and
are migrating to Google's Gmail platform. It's a great way for a
small business to keep in touch without needing special software
on a specific PC. They hold your mail and they maintain the system, and
you can get to it on any PC and any smart phone. You can now even
use your branded domain name for a more professional look to your email
address.. (We'll cover that later). You especially want a stable way to use Gmail and all of it's features. If you're familiar with Gmail, you know how great it is. But what can make it even better? Using Firefox as the default web browser. With Firefox, you can not only have a rock solid stable environment to run Gmail, but there's hundreds of enhancement plug-ins to make Gmail even greater as a business and marketing tool. The best way to start is to download and install the latest Firefox release. Then you can set your Gmail page as the default web page when you startup firefox. How to do this in Firefox: first log into your Gmail account, then by hit Tools - Options - General - Use Current Page. For a more professional look to your emails that you send out to clients, you might want to use your own domain email address instead of an address that ends in "gmail.com". Basically you go to your domain registrar control panel and create an email forwarding account for your domain (most registrars, like Godaddy, offer this feature for free with your domain registration). Decide what your branded email address will be (for example, john@johnsmith.com) and forward it to your Gmail address. You do this by filling up two fields in your domain registrar’s email forwarding control panel: * In the
“Add Forward” field, type in the left portion of your branded email address,
in this example john.
Once you've pointed mail to your gmail account: 1 Log on to Gmail.
Latest Gmail Feature promises to be incredible! It's called "Buzz", and it's a great and super easy way to use social networking to keep your customers posted about the latest news on your company. It's also built right into Gmail, so you don't really need to sign up or do anything extra, just start using it! It even works with Twitter and other news sharing sites. But I'm a Die Hard Outlook Guy! I know, there's lots of reasons for staying with Outlook. You might be in a corporate or secure mail situation, or syncing wirelessly with a smartphone, or you like the calendars and tasks... That's fine. Gmail can easily be configured to work with Outlook too. This link will show you how to use Gmail with Outlook, and a number of other softwares and devices. Of course if you need help or get stuck
setting anything up, we're just a phone call away.

Cleaning
out the CR@P
The funny thing about the way windows uses hard drives, it seems the more individual files you have, the slower it runs. It's not so much about how full your disk is (although that does play an important factor), it's the quantity of files. For example, if you have a 100GIG hard disk that is half full with 10 large files. It's easier to access than if the same drive were to be half full with hundreds or thousands of tiny files. This is the same thing that happens when your hard disk fills up with thousands of tiny Temporary files. Your machine can run noticeably (and annoyingly) slower. There is a program to the rescue called Ccleaner (originally it was called Crap Cleaner) (I'm not kidding). Ccleaner is one of the safest and most thurough file and registry cleaner. It's safe, easy to use, and it runs on everything from Windows 98, to XP, to Windows 7. Download and run it and see the diff.. Plus it's free, I mean not totally free, there's some features not availble on the free one, but it's pretty darned effective nonetheless. As always, when installing anything, you might want to read each screen carefully, and un-check anything that's bundled with it which is not actually part of the program (Google toolbar for example). If you're still creeping
along like a snail, it might be something more serious... better give us
a call fast..

Staying
Secure ain't easy!
Your PC is constantly accessing the net, that's for sure, but how can you be sure that it's doing it for legitimate reasons? Well, you can't. Not entirely. Antivirus programs and firewalls only work to a certain extent to keep you safe, but who knows how many "back doors" have been built into various programs and apps you're running. If you suspect that something strange might be going on and you really want to make absolutely 100% sure you are secure, we can do a security analysis and recommend remediation steps. After all, your data is your business and you need to protect it. Call us now before it's too late. J.G. Networking (267) 496-0350 |

Backup that Backs up itself!
Being caught without a backup is not only devestating to your business and personal data, but also embarrassing to you as a business owner in general. Not to mention all those photos that might be lost forever, and the forms, documents, payroll records, banking info, insurance forms... Well I'm getting uneasy just thinking about it! While external drives are a nice way to go, and using a 3 to 5 drive rotational system is great, sometimes you need something dependable that can sort of run itself and not have to worry about human intervention as much. Or maybe you just need some extra place to store things that's reliable, without spending money buying a new server. We at J.G. Networking have developed the AdatMAX external mirrored storage system. It was originally designed for the extreme demands of a radio production studio that has to keep thousands of megabytes of files at their fingertips without delays. This high throughput technology is now available to you for all of your data, forms, photos, drawings, Streaming Media, or anything else that fits on a hard drive. Features: High Throughput USB interface, Dual Redundant Drives, Easy to Operate, No Software or Drivers, Just plug in and go. We can build one for you today* for as low as $399! It's available currently in One or Two Terabyte configuration. Let's build one for you! Call Now: J.G. When
is the last time you checked to see if your backup is running correctly?
Are you simply changing a tape without checking if it's even working at all? How do you know if it's getting all your critical data? Once your data is gone, if you don't have a reliable backup, the data could be lost forever, and re-creating it all is a monumental task. If
you're still using tapes, call us immediately, as tapes are most vulnerable
to data loss and failure. We have partnered with DCS backup, a local
Philadelphia company. DCS will safely and securely back up your data,
offsite, within moments, to a secure off-site facility. Restoring data
is also quick and easy. If you value your data and your time and
productivity, Call us to setup an appointment at (267) 496-0350.
